EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy:
Healing Trauma & Restoring Hope

Are you finding it difficult to move past the lingering effects of trauma, anxiety, or chronic stress? Whether your issues stem from childhood trauma and abuse or you have more recent incidents, these issues can be deeply held in your nervous system, then get triggered over and over, affecting your overall quality of life, relationships, and daily functioning.

I offer a client-centred, compassionate and somatic-based Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) designed to facilitate the emotional and felt-sense healing you are needing to help you resolve trauma symptoms, build more affirming beliefs and self-compassion and regain control over your well-being.

How EMDR Therapy Works

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) to facilitate the processing of distressing memories and current struggles that cause dysregulation in your nervous system. During sessions, you focus on a troubling memory or stress target while simultaneously experiencing rhythmic, alternating stimuli, such as guided eye movements, shoulder taps, or auditory tones/music.

Focusing on both the target and the BLS, provides dual engagement that helps reprocess and integrate the memory or current stress issue, reducing its emotional charge and promoting healthier, adaptive responses. The bilateral stimulation aids in accessing and reorganizing the brain’s memory networks, enabling you to process past experiences more effectively and build emotional resilience.

My Approach

I offer a relational and client-centered approach to EMDR therapy that prioritizes your unique needs and pacing. I believe in creating a therapeutic environment where you feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way. I follow the best guidelines for trauma recovery and work with a Phased approach to trauma therapy. This includes a skilled assessment of your stabilization ability and readiness for re-processing to ensure you have a positive experience of EMDR and be able to feel the benefits of true transformation and recovery.

My approach is deeply rooted in a strong background in psychodynamic therapy and child state work, so we can explore and find relief from childhood wounding with sensitivity and depth.

Additionally, I hold certification in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a somatic body-mind therapy which accesses the wisdom of the body for nervous system regulation and to enhance the effectiveness of EMDR.

This combined expertise enables me to tailor our sessions to your individual journey, fostering true recovery of a stable, resilient, confident self through a compassionate and responsive therapeutic relationship.

The Key Stages of EMDR Therapy Treatment

1. Understanding Your Experience: First, we work together to create a safe and supportive space where you can openly discuss your experiences and feelings. We then explore what current targets you have (current issues and struggles that you want to see change).

2. A Phased approach - Phase 1 Enhance Nervous System Stabilization: We collaborate together to understand how stable your nervous system is and check your readiness to do reprocessing work. Depending on your unique capacity, we create an effective treatment plan of somatic resourcing to teach your body to stay regulated within the window of tolerance.

3. Phase 2 - Deepen into the root cause: When ready, we proceed to the next phase of treatment, where we work together to identify the specific memories and beliefs that are causing you distress.

4. Processing Memories or Incidents: Using gentle, guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps your brain reprocess and integrate these troubling memories. This process helps reduce the emotional intensity associated with these memories, allowing you to view them from a new, less distressing perspective.

5. Rebuilding and Reframing: As you work through these memories, your adaptive processing brain and inner wisdom will replace negative beliefs with healthier, more positive ones. This helps shift your responses and reactions, fostering a greater sense of emotional stability and self-confidence.

6. Moving Forward: EMDR therapy not only addresses past traumas but also equips you with tools to manage stress and anxiety in the present. Our goal is to help you develop resilience and reclaim a sense of control over your life.

Throughout this journey, I will provide guidance and support tailored to your unique needs, ensuring that you feel understood and empowered every step of the way. With EMDR therapy, you truly can experience the profound power of healing from within and embrace a future filled with greater peace and a greater ability to navigate life with deepened connection to your Wise Mind.
